The Definition of Time Dilation and Faster Than Light
When people misunderstand the definition of time, they think of doing impossible things. It took me almost two years to understand time and how to explain it easily.
Where do we see time, and more importantly, what is the definition of time?
When we look at a clock or a cell phone, it shows numbers. You want to know the time, and you see numbers. What do the numbers mean? You must do some math in your mind to translate the numbers into the time.
Where do these numbers come from? We have been misled by clocks thinking that time exists in the universe. Instead, time exists in our minds.
Some common sayings are that it takes time for light to move, it takes time to work, and it takes time to heal. That's false thinking.
The movement of an activity doesn't use time; time is a duration of a force or action. The duration is measured using clocks, but it's not caused by clocks.
We think we use time to work or move, but we use energy, and time is in our minds.
The numbers on clocks move at the rate of our planet's motion. There are 1,440 minutes daily, and a clock ticks at the same speed as the Earth rotates.
We have learned that the numbers mean the time of day, which is the position of your location in regard to the Sun.
Thus a clock is a motion-measuring tool, and "time" is measured motion.
But some say that there’s another time that scientists call the arrow of time. One more time, it’s not time! It’s motion and kinetic energy.
Time and clocks are separate things.
A clock is a tool that shows numbers, and the numbers let you know the time of the day.
If you travel very fast or move to a higher elevation, your clock ticks slower. This change to a clock is called time dilation.
Time dilation is caused by the force of gravity or acceleration acting on a clock. Clocks are physical devices subject to the forces of nature.
Therefore, a clock's display is relative to speed or gravity.
Einstein said time is relative to speed, but he was only half right. Clocks are relative to gravity.
Time is a concept that we use to keep track of our daily lives. Clocks are tools that tick with the rate of Earth's motion, and the numbers on clocks are translated into time.
Time comes from clocks measuring motion in the universe, and the fastest motion comes from the electromagnetic force.
Faster Than the Speed of Light
It's impossible to change time (namely the rotation of the Earth) by moving faster.
The faster you accelerate, the slower a clock ticks because a clock is affected by the force of acceleration or gravity. Time doesn’t slow down! Clocks slow down.
A clock can’t maintain the correct ticking rate because the force of gravity slows the rate of a clock’s mechanism.
Time dilation does not affect Earth’s motion; therefore, it can’t change the time except in your thoughts. Remember, time only exists in our minds.
Einstein thought the time on a clock controls the motion of events. He postulated the time on a clock could make you younger or that time travel was possible.
But time has no power to cause things or events to happen. We measure everything based on the speed of clocks, but a clock must be in a stable environment to be accurate.
Clocks are used to measure the duration and speed of events.
But if a clock is strongly affected by gravity, imagine the effect on a person.
If you could travel at the speed of light, your clock would stop ticking, and it seems time has stopped. But time doesn’t stop; only the clock stops ticking.
However, your body functions also stop moving, and you will die long before your heart stops beating.
Our heartbeat is similar to a clock’s ticking because the speed of both items depends on the force being experienced.
Can we travel faster than the speed of light? No, and I’ll explain why the speed of light is the universe's speed limit.
In the beginning, the universe started expanding at the speed of light, and it’s still moving at the speed of light.
Time isn't moving or causing the universe to move. Everything inside the universe is moving at the same speed.
Consider that the universe is our vehicle moving forward and expanding at light speed.
But we can move at any speed inside our vehicle while our electrons, atoms, and quarks are moving at the speed of light.
However, we can’t move faster than the universe because the future doesn’t exist. Where would we go? The future isn’t a destination or a different time zone.
The present moment is the only time in the entire universe. The universe moves with the arrow of kinetic motion.
I hope you understood my explanation of how clocks give us time and time dilation and why time travel is impossible.
That means if you could travel into a wormhole or use a portal to travel to another place in the universe, you would still be in the same moment of the expanding universe.
The destination might look futuristic, but it’s the same moment as on Earth.
Time travel is impossible, and time isn’t a means of travel. Time is used to measure speed by using clocks affected by the environment.
Time is a measurement of motion but not the cause of motion.
Thanks for reading my weekly newsletter at https://lovinthings.com/ Science in Your Life is the place to be if you want to know answers but don't want to look at a bunch of math.
If you want more wisdom, read my book. Here is the link, Einstein: Misled By Time. Notice that I think outside the box and explain things using logic.
I appreciate your time. Take care, and be well. Please accept my gratitude and love, xoxo. eriklovin@gmail.com
