Time Is Like Gold.
Here is a story of a lazy man who missed the time to get his gold. His friend was a wealthy man, and one morning, the lazy man asked his friend, “Why does everyone refuse my request for work. My enemies have told everyone that I never do any work on time.
The rich man said, “Let’s make a deal. Before sunset, you come to my ship and take as much gold and money as you can carry. They will all be yours.“
The man went home to his wife and explained everything. After hearing the husband, the wife said, “Go and get the gold and money now. Time is gold for you.”
The lazy man sat down and said, “I can’t go until I have my lunch first.”
He ate so much that he decided to nap but fell asleep for 2 hours. Then, he took a few bags late in the afternoon and went to the Marina to find the ship.
On the way, he was hot. So, he sat down under a tree to rest and ended up sleeping for another 2 hours.
When he finally reached the ship, it was late in the evening, but the ship had sailed before sunset.
Therefore, He lost a golden chance to get rich just because he didn’t know the value of time.
Moral of the Story:
Time is precious. Spend it wisely and don’t waste time, especially when you have important things to accomplish.
Wisdom is not a product of schooling but a lifelong attempt to acquire it, and one of my goals is to have wisdom.
I Missed Two Flights Wasting Time
I have a story to share about when I lacked wisdom while wasting my time.
My story is an example of how to lose romance and money while wasting time.
I made friends with a Chinese millionaire using an online dating service and booked a trip to China to meet her. I lived adventurously and felt as if there was always enough time.
However, I missed my flight twice on the same day because I was wasting my time.
My flight was to leave at 6:30 am from my hometown, and the airport is about 40 minutes away. I called a taxi the night before to confirm my ride at 5 am and set my alarm at 4:45 am. I slept past my alarm and missed my taxi ride.
I called the taxi, and they said they knocked on the door and waited. It was almost 5:30, and I asked if we could still make it to the airport. The taxi guy drove me, breaking the speed limits, and I made it to the airport at 6:15, but the boarding gate was closed.
The taxi drove me home, and I was tired and went back to sleep. My connecting flight was in Toronto at 6:30 pm, so I thought I could drive myself after lunch and still make it on time.
There was an accident on the highway and a detour, then parking the car and waiting for a shuttle, but I made it to the check-in counter at 6:00 pm. Yes, I can hear you laughing. The check-in closes 45 minutes before a flight. No one told me that. In the movies, they always run to the plane at the last minute.
I missed two flights and the money. What should I do? Go home and forget about the trip? I didn't want to be a quitter, so I booked a flight for the next day.
Then I had to get a taxi, book a room at a hotel in Toronto and pay for another flight. I should have cut my losses and stayed home, but I don't stop that quickly when I set a goal for myself. I would always regret that I didn't follow my plan to the finish.
Follow me next week about how the rest of the trip wasted my time and money.
